June 1st through 7th, 2026

Last week had more seasonal temperatures, a little wind, and even some rain. With the lake level falling 3 inches since May 1st, we could use more rain. Some mornings were windless. The lake was very foot-able during these mornings. Local squirrels have moved on from seeds and are getting their greasy little, larcenous paws into the suet feeders. It's unclear if they like the suet or if they just like to annoy us. On second though, <a href='/WeeklySummaryPages/2022/1106/SquirrelFacts.html' class ='defaultlink2' target='_blank'>it's clear</a>. The fish were active all week as were the fishermen. The lake temperature was above 70°F all week. There was some shivering, but swimming, diving, and skiing were not the hypothermic events they have been. By mid-week, the clouds began to whisper about some coming rain. Before the rain, there was a ski show. The first one of the year is usually lightly attended. This one was no different. The show was pretty good. The sunsets after the two rain events later in the week were notable. The first batch of showers gave us a tenth of an inch. The second almost two tenths. We need more to hold the lake level. By the end of the week, trillium season was over. They'll be back in about 49 weeks. As soon as the trillium went purple, local gardens began to wake up. The water hazards at the NCC did not get more perilous after the rain. The pond on seven is getting covered with lily pads Under the lily pads and above the golf balls, there are currently a bazillion tadpoles. Under the lily pad free, clear water of Lake Lucerne, the perch are getting bigger than ever. It may not have been as warm as past weeks, but it was more green and blue. Especially green. From the golf ball grabbing trees on the golf course, to the tadpole sheltering lily pads on the ponds, to the sweet corn popping up in part of the bar's garden, plants of the northwoods are exploding with growth and green. We need more rain to keep it that way. <br><br><br>-Nemo enjoys plants except for golf ball grabbing trees. I hate those guys.
