Last week started off summer warm. Some would call it hot. We'd call it great. If you are coming to the northwoods, bring sun glasses, a swim suit, and plenty of tanning butter. For almost a week now, the lake area has been a little light on rain. The lake level seems to be going down. We'll get an official reading on the level soon. We need some rain. It looked like Lucerne was going to get the buckets of rain it needed on Tuesday evening. There was plenty of rumbling, but all of the sky water passed to the south. The lack of rain has extended its reach to the NCC. The water hazards are no longer over-filled, and unwatered parts of the rough are getting a little crispy. After the weather moved on, the lake wasn't deeper, but was incredibly flat. Trillium season is rapidly ending. The large patches of white went to fading purple seemingly overnight. Local birds seem to be loving the newly minted summer. Local furry balls of evil seem to love eating food left for the birds. The geese left north end lawns during and after the busy Memorial Day weekend. Then they came back. We counted 16 of them. Now it's 16 plus 4. The lake may be getting lower, but its clarity is not. Lucerne was the place to be [under] to escape the sun during the hotter parts of last week. The water temperature hit 70°F by the end of the week. Last week held many graduation parties. The one we attended had pulled pork, cake, and many current and past ski show members. The first ski show of the year is scheduled for this Wednesday (June 3rd) at 6:30 PM in front of Waters Edge. May started off much like an outboard motor with a few of its cylinders not firing (kinda like our pontoon boat). It chugged along and struggled to stay lit as it got us in the direction of June (the north end of Lucerne was our boat's actual destination). Last week, all the cylinders started to fire (like our pontoon under the influence of Sea Foam motor treatment). And the turbo charger spun up to life. The last week in May tried to jump over June and stick the landing around mid-July. Bravo, May! It's short term fun, long term pain to sprint into summer activities rather than marathon into them. But we have a new plan for this year. Sprint and use Ibuprofen to mask the pain, denial to deflect fatigue, and banana daiquiris to fend off cramping.<br><br><br>-Nemo's still mostly functional
