Highs in the 70s°F, Rain in the Gauge.

It's been dry for the past several weeks. Gardens needed watering and the lake level was dropping. That ended last week. The above normal warmth ended, too. The week kicked off with almost two tenths of an inch. The lake temperature got up to 73°F before the weekend. Then more cold rain and chilled air fell. It dropped to 67°F by Sunday evening. It's swimmable, but not comfortably so. The fishing last week was fantastic. Lure goes in, fish comes out. We got all we cared to clean in about 15 minutes. The second round of rain hit with thunder and lightning just before Wednesday's ski show. It left behind a canceled event and a deeper lake. It also filled the dry lake bed formally known as Lake Schaefer. The ski show canceling rain added up to eight tenths of an inch. Just before the next storm, a large-ish patch of Eurasian Milfoil was pulled from the northeastern corner of Lucerne. As the last milfoil was plucked from the bottom, the next storm smacked the lake. It was more wet than thunder-y. Inflows are running and beaches are shrinking. The lake is deeper. When an eagle starts some tight turns over the lake coupled with a rapid drop in altitude, it's nice to have a camera. We are not sure what it got, but it looked heavy and was presumably tasty (to an eagle). The last bit of rain pushed the lake up two more tenths of an inch before Saturday morning. The LLAA spring meeting kicked off on Saturday with a hour long presentation by a biology professor on lake health and Eurasian Milfoil. In summery, Lucerne is clear, deep, and currently very healthy. After all the rain, the water hazards at the NCC are not as clear, but are deeper and wider. Laona's "Quarter Back Club", known for its philanthropy and fashion sense, had its annual golf outing on Saturday. The rain wasn't the only thing hatching around the lake last week. The north end of Lucerne needs more hungry eagles. The early summer we all enjoyed during the past several weeks was washed away by last Sunday. It still looks summery out there, but it feels like the end of tapping. At least there's no buckets to pull and wash. It might take a week or three to get the lake temperature back up to less shiver-y, but that will give the men some much needed time to heal up before warmer weather compels them to practice the ancient science of summer bruiseology all over again.<br><br><br>-Nemo has enough quality credits in contusion science to graduate cum laude.
