The One With Footstock

August 16th through 22nd, 2021

Lake Lucerne
Last week had some squirrel ball (1-0), sunshine, and warmth. And waves.
Lake Lucerne
We finally got that week with winds from the South that roughed up the water on the North end of Lucerne.
Lake Lucerne
The temperature of all that angry water inched closer to 80°F as the weekend approached. It didn't make it, but 78°F ain't bad.
Lake Lucerne
The clarity of the water is as crystal as ever.
Lake Lucerne
The warmth and the clarity made the collecting of golf balls that somehow missed the bucket on the raft all the more fun to dive for. Even the deep ones!
Lake Lucerne
In the middle of the week, the second last ski show of the year was held under a clear sky and setting sun.
Lake Lucerne
There's only one more left. If you miss it, you'll regret it.
Lake Lucerne
On the weekend, a small lake on the North side of Crandon hosted the largest barefoot event in the world.
Lake Lucerne
Footstock 2021 had over 100 of the world's best footers, 5 boats, and port-o-potties that were described as "not that gross".
Lake Lucerne
And a very flat lake. The waves that plagued Lucerne all week did not make it to the North end of Crandon.
Lake Lucerne
The forecasts of rain on Saturday did not happen and the boats pulled footers all weekend.
Lake Lucerne
Footstock embodies all the best in sports with its friendly yet fearsome competition and ending every match with a crash. Sometimes two!
Lake Lucerne
In the middle of Footstock, Mrs Nemo and I headed South to take in another event where local sportsballers were to do a preseason game.
Lake Lucerne
While the home team ultimately lost and we did not get leapt upon, it was still a wonderful and life altering experience. We can't thank you enough Dennis and Jenny for the south end zone's front row view!
Lake Lucerne
On Sunday, the calm water continued at the Footstock event. The result was many long runs full of complete eights including a record 13.75 eights in a run between Jon Debelak and Marc Donahue. Because of the double elimination nature of the event, the two would compete again after Marc beat Paul Stokes in the consolation bracket. Jon won again to take the Open.
Lake Lucerne
One of the best runs, if not the best one, was the woman's championship duel. Sophia Miljevich's opponent, Ella Miljevich, went down and a fraction of a second later Sophia washed up her face in triumph.
Lake Lucerne
Of the 5 boats, one had some sort of engine problem that kept it out all weekend. Another hit a ski or something, but the remaining 3 (plus the 3 drivers and 6+ judges, thanks guys!) kept the water busy and the crowd entertained.
Lake Lucerne
Due to the long runs, the award/exhausted camera battery ceremony was held just before sunset on Sunday.
Lake Lucerne
The final act of taking out the Footstock dock ended quickly and with few injuries.
Lake Lucerne
The event had so much great action and fantastic photographers (mostly Mark and Tori) that we'll make a special Footstock 2021 summary page full of phenomenal imagery and video.

You would think at this point in the calendar that Summer would be winding down. And you'd be wrong. The days continue to touch the 80°F mark, the water is warm-ish, and the sun will burn the un-buttered. It will end someday, but in the meantime, superglue the holes in your feet, pound an energy drink or two, and take your tan to the lake and dive in.
