The One With All The Water

August 9th through 15th, 2021

Lake Lucerne
At the beginning of last week, the remains of the storms moved on, seasonal temperatures and sunshine moved in, and we all limped forward into another week of Summer.
Lake Lucerne
Rain gauges were checked and emptied. The lake level remains high.
Lake Lucerne
The lake's temperature isn't July like, but still very swimmable.
Lake Lucerne
With the drier air and warmth came flights of hummingbirds. They can empty a feeder in less than a day.
Lake Lucerne
That strange fuzzy bird can empty a feeder in less than a day, too.
Lake Lucerne
As the sunshine played on the lake's surface it seemed to attract a fair amount of watercraft.
Lake Lucerne
There was also a ski show last week on Wednesday. It was held in front of an unusually large crowd.
Lake Lucerne
There's only 2 more left. If you haven't been to one yet this year, you still have a chance of seeing one of the best displays of ski-manship in Wisconsin.
Lake Lucerne
In between the two remaining shows, there's Footstock. The largest barefoot tournament in the world will be held just to the North of Crandon on Saturday and Sunday (August 21st and 22nd).
Lake Lucerne
There's another ski show in the northwoods and it's more jumpy than Lucerne's.
Lake Lucerne
The Hodag Water Shows will be putting on a show Sunday, August 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Hodag Park.
Lake Lucerne
They are a little smaller than the Crandon Water Shows, but they have a jump, some impressive talent, and their own Stella!
Lake Lucerne
Nights have been cool and still. We watched the moonlight dance off the water until our batteries ran low.
Lake Lucerne
The water under all that cavorting sun and moon light continues to be cool, clear, and the best way to escape any late Summer heat.
Lake Lucerne
This year, only one golf ball has been chipped from the shore into the bucket on the raft. We dove for the few that missed the mark.
Lake Lucerne
There were more then you'd think.
Lake Lucerne
The nights have been cool, but the days have been hot. If you have not been hurt playing North of Hwy 64, it would seem that many more opportunities for injury lie ahead of us. If you have been dinged up, it's time to hit the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories and push for more. There will be plenty of time to convalesce in the coming months after excavating a few feet of snow from walks and drives.
