Late Summer's Kiss

August 28th through September 3rd, 2023

Lake Lucerne
Last week started off cool. The high temperatures struggled to get to 60°F and the morning lows had the lake steaming. Then came the weekend. It got hot.
Lake Lucerne
Before it got hot, there was some rain. We needed more, but what can you do?
Lake Lucerne
The dryness of August has dropped the lake level four inches since July ended.
Lake Lucerne
The beaches on the north end of the lake are coming back.
Lake Lucerne
The lack of rain has not stunted the local crabapple crop.
Lake Lucerne
The lack of rain may be accelerating the autumnal tree colors around Lucerne.
Lake Lucerne
As the week went on and the temperatures went up, some houses got more shingley.
Lake Lucerne
The fishing might be good if you trust the activity of the local eagles.
Lake Lucerne
Several sunsets were great. Months before the great sunsets and eagle activity, it was proclaimed the the rock band KISS had scheduled a Crandon date on its farewell tour. We previously dismissed any truth to this rumor to be as likely as the Mays bar changing its name, Hamm's regaining its beer dominance, or a blue moon.
Lake Lucerne
Sometime in August, Mays changed its name to Yams
Lake Lucerne
There was some evidence that the popularity of Hamm's beer has surged.
Lake Lucerne
The second full moon of August was seen on the 31st.
Lake Lucerne
By mid-week the stage and other event infrastructure was going up at the race track just west of Crandon.
Lake Lucerne
The traffic into the grounds on Hwy 8 was hideous.
Lake Lucerne
The stage faced the lake. The view from Lucerne was obstructed partly by the crowd, but mostly by topography. You could still hear the music from docks on Lucerne.

On Sunday, the Knott Lane Golf outing was held at the NCC. Ten groups of golfers braved the late summer heat.
Lake Lucerne
Our team never paid much attention to the stylistic elements of golf attire, but some others did.
Lake Lucerne
Other teams took their attire to the next level.
Lake Lucerne
Having both sides of a shirt printed adds cost, but there are times that it's definitely worth it.
Lake Lucerne
The after party started at 5:30 PM and was well attended. The Bailey's comet was spotted just before 9:00 PM.
Lake Lucerne
Among the many, many shots served that night, the Alien Secretion was one of our favorite.
Lake Lucerne
The event ended as Monday started. Seeing the party end left us exhausted and a little sad.

If the weekend weather is any indicator, despite the passing of two thirds of the Labor Day weekend, we still have some summer to go. I would encourage all to shake off the dings and dents of the physical activities to date combined with physiological damage of a raucus bar night that included Malort, and push the lake based fun until Lucerne's temperature drops under 62°F and it's time to pick a pumpkin for carving.

-Nemo may have overserved himself last night.
