Winter Coats and Swimming Suits

Underline the word "cool". The lake is hovering around 72°F. It takes a while to get used to it.

In addition to a cool lake, some of the fish are acting more squirrelly or, more accurately, raccoonally. They bite. In the past, it was the rock bass that followed the "Path of the Raccoon" (nature's a**holes), but now other panfish have adopted their annoying ways. Mrs Nemo and I are developing an action plan to stop the tormenting of swimmers by introducing these little nippers to the business end of a frying pan along with a little lemon and a nice side dish.

Last week also had a few rain events. All together, we got maybe a half an inch.

During some of the wet, cooler events, it wasn't the accumulation but the duration. On one day it stayed cool and misty from sunrise to sunset.

Evenings before rainy, misty days, came with a helpful warning sky.

Evenings that saw a clearing sky, foretold of the cold to come the next morning.

The cold sunrise that followed a clear night felt uncomfortably autumnal.

The steaming lake during such mornings whispered to us that, if we swim that day, it would take a little longer to get used to the water.

While going to the NCC golf course, it was noted that there are a number of trees on Hwy 8 showing more than a little fall color.

Horrified and disturbed by some of the trees on Hwy 8, we popped the drone up south of the lake to get a better feel for the forest color. We were relieved to find that green is almost totally in fashion.

At the course, it was further noted that the ungenerous rain amounts are slowly shrinking the water hazards.

The course itself is in great shape going into September.
