Still Summer

July 31st through August 6th, 2023

Last week continued the hot of the previous week, but without the wet. Hot and dry is a fine way to stride into August and should keep the lake temperature at comfortably swimmable. The lake temperature during much of last week hovered between 75°F and 77°F. With most days in the upper 70s°F, a few days in the mid 80s°F, and all days filled with sun, being on or under the raft was a great way to escape the heat. Late in the week, cool morning lows returned to the area. The steaming water whispered that lower lake temperaures may be coming sooner rather than later. We had three water ski shows last week. Two on Lake Lucerne and a special one on Post Lake. The two on Lucerne in front of Waters Edge were great. There are only 2 more shows scheduled on Lucerne this year. If you haven't seen one yet, you should plan on being at Waters Edge at 6:30PM on Wednesday. The show at Post Lake was well attended by those on land and many on pontoon boats. The Lake Lucerne Advancement Assocation held its annual Fun Day event on Saturday. The food was good and the auction was entertaining, but I should have bid more on the old bar glassware to replace the Malort weakened glasses we currently use. Last Week, the clouds did not get thick enough to give any rain but on several evenings they were full enough to make for some good sunsets. A flock of Canadian geese have been honking up lawns on the north end of the lake all summer. After much unrequested fertilizing of the bar's lawn, they were escorted off the property, waddled into the lake, and moved on. The NCC golf course is in great shape. The fairways have fewer divots than usual for this time of year and the water hazards have been topped off. The Knott Lane Open is less than 4 weeks away. We'll post more information on the event soon. The hot days of last week were heartening, but the lake steaming mornings were worrisome. The crisp mornings of autumn are not without their charm, but not yet please. Many here in the northwoods are planning on more warmish water skiing. Plus there is the "let's-try-something-new" bruises to accumulate before the lake drops below 70°F.

-Nemo has ordered a few more 80°F days with a side of flat water.
