Summer 2023 may have reached its zenith. Last week started off hot, got hotter, and then cooled off on the weekend. There was sun, storms, and a notable rise in the lake's temperature. A better summer week you will not find. On Friday, just before a slightly cooler weekend, the lake temperature rose to 77°F. Huzzah! It was the best time of year to dip toes, no matter how small, into Lucerne. Flowers and other flora also seem to be peaking. The first batch of storms put an inch of water into the lake. The second round of rain added another half an inch. We think Lucerne is still down for the month, but we'll see for sure on August 1st <a href='/LakeLevel/LL2.html' class ='defaultlink2' target='_blank'>during the monthly lake level</a> check. The sunsets just before the storms were pretty good. The sunsets after the rain were good, too. The two ski shows last week were not affected by the storms. They both were great. There are only 4 more shows left on Lucerne. If you havn't seen one yet, now's the time. A few big eagles were spotted floating around the north end of the lake all week. Blue damselflies were seen adding color to the plants. The cooler mornings on the weekend had the lake steaming again. Saturday morning also saw the First Annual LLAA 5K-ish run/walk. The event started at the Bar. Proceeds from this year's race were donated to the Crandon Area Rescue Squad. Over the years we've had many types of vehicles at the bar. We've had various boats, cars, trucks, and <a href='/WeeklySummaryPages/2014/0526/GoN.html' class ='defaultlink2' target='_blank'> even a helicopter</a>, but never a trolley. Until now. Yay! The run/walk started off more crowded than I thought it would have. The congestion thinned by the finish line. Later on Saturday, Kentuck Day came to Crandon. There was also a car show on the celebration's periphery. Saturday night was the first "Bar Night" of the summer. It opened at 7 PM and closed early Sunday. We enjoyed all the people, some of the beverages not so much. There were also some tastier drinks, music, pool, and an epic-ish bar rail bowling match. The small glass bottle labeled Baska Droppar seemed innocuous enough and gave no warning to the horror it contained. Won't be doing that again, at least not willingly. Aside from what will be be forever referred to as the "Baska Droppar Bar Crime", last week was one of the more wonderful weeks of the year. The great ski shows, a lack of Canadian smoke, and blistering heat were enjoyed to the point of exhaustion. Unlike Baska Droppar, which was enjoyed to the point of sorrow and revulsion. It didn't take much. With the weekend feeling like an inflection point, it's best not to dwell on ghastly intoxicants and instead focus on the lake, the ski shows (including Footstock!), and the upcoming Packer season.<br><br><br>-Nemo's Sunday Morning's PTSD was mostly Baska Droppar based.
