The cold from the previous week flowed into last week. The high temperature of 54°F last Thursday was downright disrespectful. On the weekend, the weather bounced back to Summer. With a little luck, it'll stay there until mid-September.
Along with all the cold at the start of the week came a little much needed rain, too.
The Lake Lucerne Advancement Association had their Spring meeting on Saturday morning. It lasted an hour and ended with a talk from an entertaining sheriff.
After the meeting and a dump run, we journeyed south to a belated wedding reception just south of Appleton. Of all the contests during Beer Olympics, the Hammerschlagen was our favorite. Just before we headed back to the lake, a miscreant found a bottle of Malort and we found ourselves compelled by both tradition and poor judgment to have a shot with the groom. The taste of rotten grapefruit with the lingering after taste of a tire fire plagued us long after the sun set.
The toast we used during the shot portion of Saturday was as poetic as it was appropriate: Malort, because those pants aren't going to sh*t themselves! The taste is interesting. It’s like if shame and regret were left to ferment before being distilled through an old, sweaty shoe. During the next bar night you should have some! Summer seems to be back and it's shaping up to be a lake level lowering dry one. For June, the lake is down 3 inches with over a week to go. We need more rain. We also need better judgment and less Malort.
