A Taste of Summer

May 17th through 23rd, 2021

Lake Lucerne
It got warm last week! During much of the week, daily high temperatures went above 70°F. On Saturday it touched 80°F. As is often the case, the water temperature is lagging a bit. The upshot here is that swimming is super refreshing. There was some rain. The lake level is very high.
Lake Lucerne
The extreme southwestern corner did not get much rain last week.
Lake Lucerne
The pond here could have really used a few inches, or feet, or 143.7 feet of rain. Its level is quite low.
Lake Lucerne
The river on the other side of the pond is still at a respectable level and the giant bridge and tippy power towers make us happy.
Lake Lucerne
The pond's visiting center is still closed, but parking spots are plentiful.
Lake Lucerne
The low water levels have exposed constructions with an unclear purpose that were underwater for over half a century.
Lake Lucerne
The bronze statuary that adorn the shores here are quite unlike any near Water's Edge.
Lake Lucerne
Some have toes. People touch them for luck.
Lake Lucerne
Some don't have toes and people touch other parts for luck.
Lake Lucerne
The knottlane board meeting and pool party is winding down. Enough progress has been made on cocktails and coding ideas to fill a click bait slide show. Number 7 will shock you!
Lake Lucerne
Number 11, trying to get the ski show (first show June 9th!) to add a giant wheel and huge zip lines to the barefoot line might be a little over the top.
Lake Lucerne
The trees here are still a bit ahead of those nearer the lake, but it's a close thing.
Lake Lucerne
On the shore and in the woods, the trillium are in full trill.
Lake Lucerne
This week could be peak for the big forest floor flowers.
Lake Lucerne
Most ferns are in peak unfurl.
Lake Lucerne
In a rare north shore crime spree, late last week vandals broke into the ice house, started the lawn tractor, and mowed the bar's lawn. We can only hope that this roving gang of outlaws don't continue these wanton acts of lawlessness by planting the garden or painting the bar (The paint color should match the new shed and is available at Menards).
Lake Lucerne
The hot seems to have brought with it rain. We'll check the lake level on June 1st, but the consensus is that it's a little down from last month. The rain may change that. Boat traffic is up and there is talk of a hatch of goslings on the North end of Lucerne. Special thanks to Tori for the pictures nearer the lake for this update.

-Nemo hopes those roving ruffians don't cut (and split) a cord (or two) of wood for campfires.
