Greener Shade of Gray

May 10th through 16th, 2021

Lake Lucerne
The lake area started last week with below freezing mornings, sub-normal high temperatures, and mostly leafless trees. That changed by the weekend.

Plants lining Knott Lane were up during the cold start of the week, but really accelerated their growth by the weekend.
Lake Lucerne
The flowering plants here in the extreme southwestern corner of the lake area are just a week or two ahead of those on the shore.
Lake Lucerne
The trees here are half a lunar cycle more leafy, too.
Lake Lucerne
We got more rain here in the extreme southwestern corner of the lake area than what fell on the north end of the lake. Earlier in the week, we learned that the Pinball Hall of Fame had closed its former location and may have moved into an aircraft hanger at McCarran Airport. During the rain here, we hiked around the West side of McCarran International Airport looking for hangers that might harbor a pinball game or two. The task was damp and seemed daunting.
Lake Lucerne
It turned out to be not that hard to find after all.
Lake Lucerne
The hanger held hundreds of pinballs, maybe a dozen video games, and 2 change machines. The rain ended by the time we left.

In between rain hikes and pinball, the Knottlane Board Meeting and Pool Party trudged on. The primary issue discussed this week was the need to add a few more circuits behind the bar to have these guys installed. A resolution that insured that that Joe guy does not have anything to do with their programming was seconded and passed.

The hills around the lake are greening up nicely. There are a few reports that the lake temperature has gone over 60°F. The pontoon boat crane guy has the boat lifts in on Lucerne. The bar's lawn needs mowing. Swimming, boating, and even the first ski show of the year are just a few weeks away. The early in the week freezing has kept the bitey bug numbers down, but look for them to spring back with the increasing temperatures. Best stock up on tanning butter and DEET now before the Memorial Day weekend rush.

-Nemo fears drinkbots programmed by that Joe guy and the unmowedness of the bar's lawn.
