Springing Through the Frost

Last week there were reports of sun, not so much rain, and disturbing morning frosts. It's not uncommon to get below freezing morning temperatures this time of year, but it's just not as welcome as during the annual bottle rocket war. On the plus side, there was no snow.

After the morning frost becomes just another cold memory, plants are starting to push up into the crispy air.

At the annual Knottlane Board Meeting and Pool Party in the extreme southwestern corner of the lake area, the plants are a little further along.

There are a few flowers here too, though the stems tend to be more cactusy that those blooms nearer to the lake.

The new blooms exploding all over the forest floor nearer the lake are much more trilliumy.

The ponds here are also blooming in well choreographed dances on the top and bottom of the hour after 3 pm.

In the very cold water of the lake (52°F), lifts are plopping in with boats to soon follow. Not sure when the first skiers will sprout up, but we know for sure it wasn't last week.

The temperatures are about 40°F to 50°F higher here in the extreme southwestern corner and you can really feel the difference. Mornings are ice free and the tops are down on most convertibles. Soon the temperatures on the lake will get close to the ones we are enjoying here and the first swimmers and skiers will be blueing up nicely and filling the hills around the lake with their noisy sufferings (the lake temperature lags the air temperature by several weeks).
