Last week started out in a damp manner, with a late Summer feel. The lake temperature was above 70°F. During the day, the air was warmer than the lake. And there was some sun after the rain. Taken together, it seemed that Summer would flow seamlessly into September. By the weekend, that changed.
The Lake Lucerne Advancement Association had its Fall meeting on a cool Saturday morning. A few board members were re-elected, a new secretary was chosen and the new bylaws were passed. A few attendees were hit with falling acorns.
The Knott Lane Open teed off on Saturday afternoon at Nicolet Country Club. An infestation of fawns on the course were initially a concern, but after the event there were no shots reported as blocked, stepped on, or eaten.
Conditions for the tournament proved difficult due mostly to pin placement, fawn deployment, ethanol, and grips. Two teams managed to stumble in at a one under par 34. The tie was broken anticlimactically using a complex set of rules involving the bar's "Wheel of Rum"
The well attended after-party included an award ceremony, great food, and beverages that featured some extra fiery Bailey's Comets.
The low mercury mornings (40s°F!) have pushed the lake temperature down to a late September-y 66°F. There are some 30s°F in the coming forecasts. In the wresting match between Summer and Fall, it looks like Summer's down and the referee is up to a two count. There's still a chance that an ally of Summer can distract the referee and hit Fall with a folding chair or something, but time is clearly not on Summer's side. With the end of Summer coming sooner rather than later it's time to focus on Fall's many fine features. The only one that currently comes to mind is the arrival of Fall means there's only 3 more seasons to go until Summer! I'll try to think of some others while coding this year's ice-in contest.
