The lake did a lot of streaming last week as it gave up its heat. The evenings were cool and the mornings downright cold. The end of August can be a delicate time. It's not unusual to have the hot continue, but all it takes is one Canadian push for furnaces to fire. No frost yet, but we're looking for hats.
On Saturday, the last vestige of the weekly production, the show dock, was scheduled to be packed away for next year.
A larger, stronger crew than we can ever remember made short work of the disassembly.
The calendar claims we have about another month of Summer. The weather has a more mid-Spring like feel but with the advantage of not having several hundred maple sap buckets to wash and stack. Last we checked, the lake water is just above 70°F. That's cooler than last year at this time, but still okay for swimming. You just need a few minutes to get used to it. That, plus shivering is just a faster, more impatient form of tai chi, so there's that whole fitness thing, too. The annual Knott Lane golf tournament is scheduled for next week Saturday (August 31st). Get your foursome together, sign up, and chase the deer from the tees. The after party and award ceremony at the bar may or may not feature special venison based beverages.
