The deep mystery of The Bar's septic system was solved and inspected early last week. After Mrs Nemo and I located the tank (no small task), it was inspected by Ed McKeague. It passed! Huzzah! The sugermen are getting close to the finish line in the wood mining marathon for the 2020 maple syrup season. Only 5 of 7 more trailer loads to go.
Around mid-week, we were asked to check out the damage caused by the July 19th storm on some timber land just South of Lake Lucerne. The roads to the site were very rural.
When first asked to fly around and take pictures of the downed trees, I thought all you'd see from the air was the forest canopy and not the downed trees under it. It turned out that much of the canopy was on the ground. It imaged quite nicely.
On the weekend, it was time to drop the ski and hold on longer than the other guy at Peshtigo Lake just North of Crandon.
The crowd enjoyed a new announcer's stand, sun, food, and a wide selection of port-o-potties.
The forecast for rain on Sunday had most of the runs packed into Saturday. Sunday's runs had a 30 minute torrent induced intermission.
For various reasons, this year's event was cruel on the boats. By the last run, only 1 of the 5 boats was working well. After scheduled rebuilds and replacements, next year will be kinder on the floatware.
With the 100+ footers currently cooling their heels until next year, it's time to begin contemplating the mortality of Summer. Some may deny the signs of the end, but even if the arrival of fall in the near future is accepted, it's not happening today. The hot-ish season is not done. There's plenty of time to ski, foot, Rafto!, swim, and dive for that lost iPhone.
