It was frosty, cloudy, a little wet, and mostly calm last week. The highs during the day melted the snow. Lows frosted the ground by sunrise. The weather seems more like mid-November than late October. As long as it's not all early January, we're fine with that.
On the days that we did not see rain, the lows that frosted the ground by sunrise pushed lawn mowing windows late into the afternoon.
Last week had several days (in a row!) that held no precipitation. The cooler temperatures had engines starting hard, and some low spots were a little spongy, but several lawns were mowed. There might be one more grass cutting before a blanket of white covers everything, but we hope not.
A less deer-y style of speed bump had been populating Potawatomi Trail last week. They are easy to spot on the open road, but once they enter the woods, they become essentially invisible.
While the weather last week wasn't the best, the steak was, and that's what counts in late October. The meteorology pushed us into goofing off and updating knottlane.com by adding a Secure Sockets Layer to establish an encrypted link between the web server and your browser so the Russians can't intercept wild turkey pictures or last week's skiing conditions. Side note: Nobody skied last week. This (the encryption thing, not the lack of skiing) caused two problems. Some of the java script code needed to be updated in order to work. This turned out to be a not so trivial problem that was eventually solved for the most part. There was some sweat, a little blood, a few tears, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Images on the main page pulled from the webcams are still not SSL compliant, but we have a plan. The second issue involves the tedious updating of a small amount of code on all of the pages that make up knottlane.com. We're a little short staffed these days so that's gonna take awhile. In the meantime, we'll get the annual ice-in contest posted (now with encryption!) and maybe some golf.
