Higher and Higher Week

Next »

May 1st through 7th, 2017

Last week wasn't very wet, but the watershed is saturated. As a result, the lake continues to rise. The June 1st measurement will be an interesting one. Some need just another few wet weeks to be able to flip the boat, crank it down, and go get some fish. Other boats are already there. The back of this pontoon boat was about a yard from the lake last Fall. Some fire pits are just a foot or two away from becoming fine fishing spots. Creeks and streams continue to flow at full force. We'll give a report on the outflow, if any, from Swamp Creek soon. Not may leaves on the trees, but the forest floor is blooming up nicely. Grass is rising almost as fast as the lake. Some lawns were cut last week. Some were not. On the North end of the lake, these are not called dandelions. They're called wishing flowers. Our wish is that they don't spread to the bar's lawn. The lake is still a little too cold to enjoy swimming. Here in the extreme Southwestern part of the lake area, the waters are a bit warmer, but the fishing here is terrible. The knottlane board has been busy. We've made several breakthroughs with ice and experimental garnishes that will be unveiled during the upcoming Memorial Day bar nights. There are also new drinking games. It's just like beer pong only with golf balls instead of ping pong balls, clubs instead of paddles, and no one drinks. In retrospect, it's not a very good drinking game. The sun is setting on the knottlane board meeting and tanning invitational. Before we head back to the shore, we'd like to thank Sally and xxLt for the images and reports they've sent to make this summary possible. The wind came primarily from the North last week pushing the warmer surface water south and inducing a welling up of cold water on the North end. The North end of Lake Lucerne is holding at 50°F. If it follows historical patterns, it should go up to the mid 50s by next weekend and close to 60 by Memorial Day.s

-Nemo, running up room charges and low on sunscreen.
