It's Getting Better and Better Week

Next »

May 8th through 14th, 2017

Last week, it got better. The air was warmer, the lake was a little higher, the hills were a smidge greener, and an early week frost decimated the annoying flying insect population. Better and better. The lake water is getting warmer, too! Fifty four degrees Fahrenheit can still induce extreme Smurfism (blue skin, high pitched voice) but, at this point in the season, it's the trend that counts. If this continues, the lake should be swimmable by memorial day with only mild cases of Smurfism. Many lawns remain unmowed, the bar's included. We can't speak for all the shore grass, but the bar's logistical grass cutting issues should be resolved soon-ish. The Knottlane board meeting and tanning invitational continued last week. Progress was made on garnish enhancements, integrating javascript and SQL technologies, muddling, and it was further resolved to cut the grass when we get back. The trees around the shore of Lake Lucerne are not even close to peak green, but the duck pond in front of the Bellagio is at max duck. What the water show on that duck pond lacks in skiers, it makes up for in shooting water jets. The lack of skiers was explained when we saw the under-powered, push me-pull you nature of their ski boat. Not sure what they were thinking. Using an overhead crane to build the final pyramid would kind of take the joy out of it. By the end of last week the lake temperature rose to a less frigid 58°F, the trillium were starting to pop, there were reports of many a green tree leaf in the woods, and campfires were lit. There was also rain predicted. Lots and lots of rain. The lake should continue to go up for the rest of May and well into June.<br><br><br>-Nemo: Tanned, rested, and ready for Summer.
