Post Ice-In Weekend

December 7th through 9th, 2007

Lake Lucerne
We made it up after dark on Friday. The air was cold, the sky clear, and the stars plenty. There was Orion...
Lake Lucerne
The Pleiades...
Lake Lucerne
Even better was the planet Mars.
Lake Lucerne
We did not see comet Holmes with our eyes but I knew where it was. The film was able to "see' it. It's the bright blob just above the center and a little to the left in this image.

The air was particularly cold Friday night and Saturday morning but Brule was open! The sub-zero temperatures prompted that little voice inside to inquire, "do you really want to do this?" as we drove to the hill. It turned out to be a pleasant day with no frostbite and only a few close calls.
Lake Lucerne
After 18 runs of various degrees of terror, the sun was setting and the cold was starting to penetrate our souls. If you leave Brule by 3:10 PM you can make the 4:00 PM mass at Laona.
Lake Lucerne
Crandon has put out new (I don't remember them last year) light pole decorations.
Lake Lucerne
They look good at night.
Lake Lucerne
Most of the houses in Crandon seem to have some light display up, but none beat Tom's.
Lake Lucerne
I you get the chance to see it, take it. These two pictures do not begin to do it justice.
Lake Lucerne
On Sunday there were many tasks to complete before the Packers crushed the Raiders. The ice was checked and found to be almost 6 inches thick. Most of the snow has blown off the top. More cold will quickly add to that 6 inches.
Lake Lucerne
The server that stores the webcam images was cleaned up by backing off pictures from August through November to a portable hard drive to be transfered to CD ROM later. It took awhile to move the 50,000+ hi-def pictures.
Lake Lucerne
The lake froze over early. It looks like it's going to be a long winter. We'll be back by January 11 to check if the snow at Brule gets less grainy/icy and to prepare for the 17th Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War scheduled for January 26th.
