Comet Weekend

May 13th through 16th, 2004

Lake Lucerne
We arrived late Thursday and were greeted with rain for the larger part of Friday.
Lake Lucerne
This loon did not seem to be bothered by the rain.
Lake Lucerne
By late Friday the sky started to clear, giving us hope to see comet NEAT.
Lake Lucerne
By 9:30 PM the clouds left and the stars were out. Comet NEAT was just below the beehive in the west.
Lake Lucerne
At less than mag 3.0, the comet was not the best one ever, but this has been only the second naked eye visible visitor in over 5 years so we were stunned . Well, maybe not stunned. How about amused? Yes, that was it. We were amused. It looked better through binoculars.
Lake Lucerne
The sky remained clear on Saturday. The sun was very warm.
Lake Lucerne
The trillium are up and all over!
Lake Lucerne
The raft anchor needed reattaching so by noon it was dive time, the first of the year.
Lake Lucerne
The emergency anchor has held well since deployed late Tuesday.
Lake Lucerne
The real anchors were located and a chain reattached to them.
Lake Lucerne
To all those that continue to litter the lake: Please stop.
Lake Lucerne
The pontoon lift pads were checked and found to be solid, photographic.
Lake Lucerne
I saw no fish at any of the cribs during the entire time. The new lens that Mr EMT gave me for Christmas worked vey well.
Lake Lucerne
The trees are just starting to leaf. In a week or two that woods should be green again.
Lake Lucerne
On Sunday, the water temperature sensor was returned to the lake. The lake temperature is currently in the 50's°F, making swimming uncomfortable.
Lake Lucerne
We left for home shortly after noon on Sunday. The wind started to blow from the south making the north end of the lake very rough. More rain is predicted and the comet should not be visible again until Tuesday night. If it's clear we will be back up later this week.
