"Peak" Color Weekend

Next »

September 26th through 28th, 2002

The cool nights are taking their toll on the lake temperature. The lake is covered in a thick blanket of steam on calm mornings. The temperatures during the day were very comfortable. The lake level was under 6 inches above the nail and then the rain came. It's now 7.5 inches above the nail and rising as the runoff continues to flow into the lake We had no time to play rafto. This was not as big a problem as you may think. We also had no desire to play rafto... The water is getting colder but is really clear. These rocks are 7 feet deep. Peak color weekend was not. There were bits of color here and there but summer green was the predominate pigment. Two weeks till peak? Meg and I found some old sparklers while cleaning. Fire is more fun when twirled but that goes for most things... The lake temperature was 64°F. Swimming could have happened, but it didn't. Lucerne was steaming most mornings. With the water temperature not getting any warmer, now would have been the time to pull boats, piers and lifts from the lake. We didn't. Looking forward to a delightful October dunking to haul them out.

-Nemo
