Peak Color Weekend

October 1st through 4th, 1997

Lake Lucerne
We made it up after a 40 hour work week that ended on Wednesday in the hope to observe the forecast blue sky and probable peak color that was prognosticated and hoped for. After laundry on Thursday, it was clear that we got both and, as a bonus, the air was warmer than expected, too.
Lake Lucerne
There was a touch of green in the trees on the North end, but by the time the green goes gold the red will be on the ground. It was agreed that this was as peak color as it was going to get. The state of Lake Lucerne was as you would expect it to be at peak color, it's crystal clear and cold.
Lake Lucerne
To get a better feel for the color, we climbed Sugarbush Hill's fire tower. The colors to the West were glorious.
Lake Lucerne
To the East, there was more green, but it was still very picturesque.

Usually as the water cools, so does the fishing, but the fish seemed pretty hungry.
Lake Lucerne
We caught (cleaned, cooked, and ate) 15 of them on Thursday night.

It was noted during the fishing trip that the sticking out log near the second point (counting from the North on the West side) has lost its marking flag.

Friday called for another Duck's visit because the popcorn shrimp was tasty last time but mostly because they had mushroom soup on the salad bar again. Yum.

All the laundry was done, the color was at peak, and the fishing could only be described as fantastic. Life is good on the North end of Lucerne. We'll be back in a few weeks to crunch through the fallen leaves and carve a pumpkin or two.
