August 24th through 30th, 2026

Last week started off, like the several weeks before, warm and dry. The lake level is dropping fast. Getting boats off lifts is getting to be a thing. And not a good thing. The lake really needs some rain. There was some overnight rain forecast near the start of the week. The storms wiffed and the lake level trudged ever lower. During many evenings, clouds would gather whispering rain by morning only to dissipate just before sunset. The water that remained in Lucerne during much of last week had a flatness to it. Local trees are continuing to get their September on. Peak color, colour for you English types, historically arrives in the northwoods in 3 to 5 weeks. The men think it'll be early this year. On Saturday, the LLAA held its fall meeting. New board members were elected, milfoil control was discussed, and the event ended on time. Before the gathering, there were pancakes. There was also a drawing. Three people won various sums of money. None of them were me. This comes as no surprise in that I never entered. Near the weekend, a few inflows were checked to see if any moisture from the watershed remains. They were bone dry. Rain finially came back to the area a short time after the LLAA meeting. Many agreed it was a good start. Many also agreed that we need several more inches. Even with the quarter of an inch, the water hazards at the NCC are not close to filled. Some guy in the group behind us smashed his drive on 2 just 7 yards short of the green. That's over 310 yards for those playing at home. This shot was judged the most astonishing event of the week. The rain on Saturday night trickled into Sunday. The heavy mist that smothered Sunday kept the area damp, but didn't add up to much accumulation. The forecast for the upcoming week is hot and damp. The lake temperature remains swimmable so there will be plenty of opportunities to practice the alchemy of Bruiseology and other forms of injury before this coming Sunday's Knott Lake Golf Open and after party. This is the time of year that Ibuprofen can be used as a garnish.

-Nemo's not going 310 yards with that swing
