	June 29th through July 5th, 2026

Last week started off warm and foggy. The fog would lift. The warm would not.

I sent the drone up hoping it could get some images above the fog, but above the fog there was just more fog.

With the fog came some rain. Not a lot of rain, but at least enough to keep the fire danger low.

Eventually the rain and fog left the area and the sun and 4th of July traffic arrived.

The shore lilies are especially liking the hot, damp weather.

Just before noon on Wednesday, it started raining. We were thinking that the ski show would be canceled.

The rain ended just before the show and a huge crowd arrived.

The throng was treated to a really good performance.

With the weekend came the 4th of July events. One of the first was Lucerne's boat parade.

All of the boats were well appointed, but some went way above and beyond.

Crandon's parade was mostly on time, long, and rainless.

We always love the ski show "float", but miss the towed roller bladers.

Later on the 4th there was a ski show in Rhinelander. They had jumps.

And bubbles.

Some of the bubbles were of extraordinary size.

When younglings would pop the bigger ones, hilarity and a good drenching would ensue.

The week ended with another ski show on Lucerne at a special time (1:00 PM).

The show was filled with good acts, a couple of puppies, and a broken nose.

The now annual 5K-ish Run & Walk is about 3 weeks away.

Many of the men are training by cutting, splitting, and stacking wood for the 2027 tapping season. Only about 5 cord to go!

With all the hot damp weather, it was inevitable that there would be a salamander involved.

With all the events packed into last week, it was nice to have plenty of daylight (the sun sets close to 9:00 PM). Having a good supply of energy drinks was nice/required, too.

By Sunday, the heavy boat traffic was over and the evening heard only an occasional report. It was an exciting and exhausting 4th of July worthy of a semiquincentennial. The ski show on Lucerne is not to be missed, but the one in Rhinelander is not without its charm. The Hodags have a swivel act performer that can only be described as superhuman. They had bleachers and bubbles, too.<br><br><br>-Nemo's sleep deficit is growing.
