The days last week were cool, but the mornings were down right cold. There was frost on the deck furniture most mornings. These things tend to even themselves out over time so we're thinking 10°F to 15°F above normal in the near future. Such thoughts are some of the only things that kept us warm last week.

Swimming certainly did not have any warming effect last week. The lake temperature ended up falling on the weekend thanks to a couple of frosty mornings.

Along with the cold, the lake got some rain last week. The almost half an inch will hold the lake level at near <a href='/LakeLevel/LL2.html' class ='defaultlink2' target='_blank'>21 inches above the nail</a>.

On the weekend, the cold sunlight and rain hung one of the best/first rainbows of the year in the eastern sky.

There are still many, many trillium covering the forest floor.

There are signs that trillium season will soon come to an end.

Most local ferns are almost done stretching out their fiddleheads.

The summer green progress bar for the hills around Lucerne is above 95%.

The north end's geese are back. They get loud when an eagle circles overhead.

The hummingbirds are more plentiful this early in the season than we can ever remember. They can empty a feeder in about two days.

The lake got all un-lumpy for the weekend. Skiers were nowhere to be seen, but there was quite the parade of pontoon boats.

Local squirrels have yet to commit any real crime, but you know that they are just itching to do some evil.

The rain took the fire danger back down to low. Campfires are a thing again.

Thanks to strong winds from the south, beach cleaning has also become a thing on the north end of the lake.

The morning frosts appear to be over and the trillium are purpling up. You'd think a few ski runs would be happening. You'd be wrong. The lake temperature has been stuck in the low 50's°F for weeks now. That's too cold for the sane to strap on the pine, grap a tow rope, and shout "Go boat!". The first ski show of the year is just a week and change away. If it doesn't get much warmer by then, there will be a bundled up audience watching bluish performers Wednesday after next.<br><br><br>-Nemo prefers 15°F above normal to shivering.
