The air was a little cooler, but not un-swimmingly so. The rain was not too drenching, there was less than an inch for the entire week. Summer is here in its full glory! Time to push the extreme fun line to just shy of permanent injury. The week started off cold. Lucerne steamed in the 42°F morning air. Mosquitoes were not happy. It got warmer as the week ripened. There still was enough rain and lack of frost to keep plants happy. The shrinking puddles on the north end of the lake are tadpole filled. Without more rain, it'll be a race to see it they frog before the puddles dry out. The lake had more ski shows than any other week this year. Monday's show was very well attended. Wednesday's show drew the biggest crowd of the year. There will be 2 shows (Monday and Wednesday) for the rest of July. During the Wednesday show, a prop (this one) accidentally sliced two tow ropes, sending the shortened lines and their handles to the bottom. The Crandon Water Shows' Dive Team was sent in to recover them. We found one. We'll contine to search for the second when the boat traffic thins, the wind calms, and the sky blues up. In between the second ski show and the handle recovery dive, there was the annual 4th of July boat parade on Lake Lucerne. For some reason, the line of boats became a bit disordered in the northeastern corner of the lake before heading south. Most participating craft were impressively decorated. We loved the volcano boat. On Saturday, Crandon had their annual 4th of July non-boat parade. This gave us the opportunity to also image the Forest County Court House restoration project. Looks like it's coming along. The crowd that came out to see the event was impressive. We counted only one boat and "skier". Back at Knott Lane, the tiger lilies are in peak flower. On Sunday, the lake temperature climbed to 73°F, reducing the shivering and bluish hue of many swimmers. Last week's Monday morning cold hurt the mosquitoes. The little blood suckers are currently not so bad. That'll change, but for now, yay! The lake rose 2.5 inches during June. The drier weather so far should keep the lake level under (as opposed to over) most piers and make lawn mowing a less planned, more spontaneous event. The coming week's warmer weather and peak lake will seriously dent stocks of energy drinks and ibuprofen, but that's what they're there for.<br><br><br>-Nemo will see you at the ski show.
