Cool Fading Into Hot

July 17th through 23rd, 2023

Lake Lucerne
Last week started off Septemberairilly with high temperatures barely in the 70s°F and a few mornings touching the 40s°F. Then came the weekend with all the sun and heat you would expect from July. There was some rain, too.
Lake Lucerne
It was not dry last week. Big rain at night and passing thunder storms during the day were not uncommon.
Lake Lucerne
The rain totals were admittedly light, with the biggest topping the half inch mark. When added all together, the lake got close to an inch of rain for the week.

Fortunately, the bar has an ample supply of crayons to keep tiny fingers away from the glassware and larger hands off the booze when it's too wet to go outside. Someday, when either we suffer multiple camera failure or just feel like it, I see an all Crayola summary page.

When the air is cooler swimming is less pleasant, but golf is fine. The course at NCC was in good shape and surprisingly empty last week.

The rain missed the ski shows last week. Both Monday's and Wednesday's shows were amazing.
Lake Lucerne
As of late, there's an immature eagle floating around the north end of the lake. To see the large bird is always entertaining.
Lake Lucerne
Being "mooned" by the not so baby ducks on the north end of the lake is also entertaining but in a more insulting sort of way.
Lake Lucerne
When the summer heat returned, being under the lake was more popular. The water temperature pushed up to 74°F by the end of the week.
Lake Lucerne
The fish seem more skittish lately. Not sure if this is related to the cool snap, more aggressive fishing, or a hungry looking diver.
Lake Lucerne
With the unstable weather came some great sunsets.
Lake Lucerne
With the wind from the west came another round of Canadian smoke.
Lake Lucerne
The smoke nicely oranged up the setting sun.
Lake Lucerne
The sliver of a moon was colored more of a burnt umber.

The hot is back. Huzzah! It's been a strange year, so it's best to get out and push all things lake until the inevitable cold returns. With the new found heat, Crandon's Kentuck Day, and the first Lake Lucerne Advancement Assocation 5K-ish Run/Walk coming on Saturday, if you're not limping by next Monday, you're not trying hard enough.
