Return to Normalcy

July 3rd through 9th, 2023

Lake Lucerne
Last week started off hot. Then came some much needed rain. Then came more mild temperatures. It was unlikely that the hot could hang around all summer, so the cool off was expected, although the Friday morning low of 42°F was just plain mean.
Lake Lucerne
During last week's celebrated hot period, the place to be was under the lake.
Lake Lucerne
Just on top of the water was okay, too.
Lake Lucerne
The lake temperature recovered a bit. Diving for golf balls could last long enough to prune fingers and toes before the shivering set in.
Lake Lucerne
There were two ski shows on Lucerne in front of Waters Edge last week. Both were great.
Lake Lucerne
During the night before the second ski show, it rained. We got an inch on the north end of the lake. This was good, but we need more.
Lake Lucerne
After the ski shows, it got cooler. The lake was seen steaming off its heat during more than one cold morning (We need to have a talk with Friday. 42°F? Friday, you need to do better.)
Lake Lucerne
It did not get cold enough to knock the baby limes from the bar's lime tree. We're not sure if they will get big enough or pollinated to make it into drinks by Labor Day, but they are still attached.
Lake Lucerne
The cold did not seem to harm this year's duck crop. On the north end of Lucerne, many piers have sprouted small bushes of ducklings.
Lake Lucerne
Floating patches of webbed feet and feathers have also been observed just off shore, too.
Lake Lucerne
Last week, the north end of the lake got a little rough at times.

On the weekend, we attended a wedding that included an amazing singer, great food, and a bride that knows a thing or two about mowing a field.
Lake Lucerne
There were so many noteworthy parts to the event, it was hard to pick the best ones, but the flower girls ranked up there.
Lake Lucerne
Then just when you thought the best was over, there was gelato!

Congratulations Zach and Francesca! May your marriage be as wonderful as your wedding! The 4th of July also happened last week. The random sounds of things blowing up are still echoing off the hills. The inch of rain we got was enough to begin to un-stress trees and green up lawns, but we need more. Just not during games of tennis, campfires and ski runs.
