Last week started off gray and cold. The ice remained out, but that was the only identifiable sign of Spring. There was also snow. About 3 inches. Hats were put on. Tee times were canceled. The February-esque weather did not seem to affect the few fishermen that had jumped the gun a bit on opening day. Others also weathered the storm, only more colorfully. Eventually, the sun came out. The last tasks of the 2023 maple syrup season, the stacking and putting up of the buckets, were finished. The sun and warmer air did not have much of an effect on Lucerne's temperature. The melting snow has <a href='/LakeLevel/LL2.html' class ='defaultlink2' target='_blank'>pushed the lake up a foot</a> since last Fall. Lucerne is currently reaching up and grabbing boat lifts that were hauled from the water last year. Then the rain started. Before the rain, the lake got rough and pummelled the beachless shoreline. After the first batch of storms, the lake got flat and footable. It was also pleasantly noted that the rain ended almost all the remaining snow. With all the melt and rain, it goes without saying that the yard puddles are huge, but we'll say it anyway. "The yard puddles are on the verge of becomming lawn lakes." The additional full inch of rain over the weekend grew the lake level and lawn lakes to new highs. After the snow, melt, and rain, there was golf. Huzzah! The Nicolet course has its share of puddles. The new fairway ponds were shortening drives and dampening socks all day on Sunday. Woe to the unfortunate duffer that overshoots a green and ends up in one of the many submerged sand traps. The regular water hazards were extra special full, too. Before all the rain and melt, the lake needed another 5 inches to get to a record high. The lake level usually peaks in June, so a wet May might just do it. Let's pray that the additional wetness is not in the form of snow. We've had enough of that this Spring, thank you. The high lake level could make pulling in lifts and piers easier this year. Unless some of the pier sections have floated away. When pulling skiers this Spring, be on the lookout for pier sections that have evolved into lake hugging, hull denting rafts.<br><br><br>-Nemo's golf game needs work.
