The Importance of Stretching

Last week started off in a full Summer sprint. Daytime highs were in the low 80's°F and the nights weren't that cool. Then Wednesday arrived and June came up gimpy, limping into the weekend with highs barely into the 70s°F and some lows in the high 30's°F. Ick. June should have stretched before the Memorial Day sprint. We are hoping with a little rest, time, and Advil, June will be up and running again before passing the baton to July.

Trillium season is coming to an end. There are still a few in full trill, but most are getting their purple on.

The forget-me-nots, on the other hand, are painting open areas with a thick carpet of baby blue.

And there are also plenty of these guys.

A few rain events kept those plants hydrated. Some of the weather came up subtly and gently, some not so much.

On the North end of Lucerne, watering plants close to the shoreline was aided by a few days of strong winds from the South.

The bit of rain has kept the ponds that dot the area around the lake full enough to keep the tadpoles happy. They will need a little more rain to make it to adult froghood.

This little guy has been seen crossing West Shore Drive near Knott Lane. Be careful when driving around the North end of the lake.

The rain and cooler weather did not seem to affect the little red ~~shits~~ squirrels that continue to empty the bar's bird feeders.

The record amount of hummingbirds also did not seem to mind a cooler, wetter week.

Over the weekend, the north end of the lake had quite a few of these guys fluttering around.

By the end of the week, despite the cooler air temperatures, the lake temperature rose to 62°F. Let the swimming begin!

Just before the lake temperature rose to 62°F, the first 10 sections of the show dock were put in at Water's Edge. We'll get the rest of the dock in before the first ski show of the year (scheduled for Wednesday, June 8th at 6:30 PM).

There's still a few other rafts and piers that need to go in. The warmer water should have them floating soon.

With all the rain in May, we were surprised that the lake level did not go up. It's still about 5 inches from an all time high, but with a drier June, it will not make it above 36 inches with respect to the nail. And that's fine with us. Low water had its problems, but less rain and a little more beach would be nice.
