Wetter, Colder, and Green

May 16th through 22nd, 2022

Lake Lucerne
It was cooler last week with highs struggling to get into the 60s°F and lows in the 40s°F or worse. It was great weather if you needed to mow or build something. Until the rain came.
Lake Lucerne
On Wednesday night, it started. The leading edge of the storm came with some spectacular lightning and a goodly amount of wind.
Lake Lucerne
By Thursday morning and ever since, the ground has been soaked.
Lake Lucerne
Creeks and streams flowing into the lake are bringing Lucerne closer and closer to a record level.
Lake Lucerne
By Saturday, we got a total of 1.25 inches. By sunset on a rainy and cold Sunday, we got another half an inch pushing the total for the week close to 2 inches.
Lake Lucerne
The plants seem to love the cooler, wetter weather with the trees getting close to full leaf.
Lake Lucerne
Trillium continue to cover parts of the forest floor in singles and pairs.
Lake Lucerne
And bazillions.
Lake Lucerne
The squirrels are more active than ever and beginning to openly taunt homeowners.
Lake Lucerne
The loons are back and hooting up the North end of the lake.
Lake Lucerne
The hummingbirds are draining feeders in a day or two.
Lake Lucerne
I've never seen so many this early in the season. We've counted as many as eight buzzing around the bar's deck at one time.
Lake Lucerne
We still have yet to see anyone ski. Given the temperature of the air and water, this was not surprising. The pontoon crane guys have been zooming around the lake putting in lifts between rain storms. It looks like most will be in by Memorial Day weekend. With all the rain, the June 1st lake level check should be interesting and maybe even record breaking.

-Nemo enjoys the humming birds, the squirrels not so much.
