Summer, now with more Squirrel!

July 5th through 11th, 2021

Lake Lucerne
Last week's temperature landscape had a valley of cold between two hills of hot. The valley pealed a bit of warmth from the lake water, but gave many of us a chance to catch our breath, restock energy drinks and ibuprofen, and not play golf. As a result, we are a happier, more relaxed people.
Lake Lucerne
It also rained.
Lake Lucerne
After the rain, we peaked out on a much hotter and dryer outdoors.
Lake Lucerne
And Lucerne was about three quarters of an inch deeper and 5°F cooler.
Lake Lucerne
The weather has much of the ground in full flower.
Lake Lucerne
We are still about a week or two away from raspberries.
Lake Lucerne
Planters and gardens around the lake are getting ready to bean or tomato. I'm still not sure where Mrs Nemo got the seeds for this strange, red, fuzzy plant, but I'm sure I don't want any of its "fruits" on my cornflakes.
Lake Lucerne
There were 2 ski shows on the lake last week. The first was in the evening on a hot Monday.
Lake Lucerne
The second show was held on a cold Wednesday and had more eagles.
Lake Lucerne
Other birds have been hitting area feeders hard. We've been doing our best to keep them stocked, lest the feathered and one strangely furry get all chirpy and enraged.
Lake Lucerne
Sunsets after the rain were pretty spectacular.
Lake Lucerne
And there were squirrels.
Lake Lucerne
Last week, even with its crevasse of cold, was quintessentially Summer. By the weekend, the lake temperature had recovered back to 74°F and the shivering on the shoreline had been replaced with the sound of boat motors pulling skiers (and tubers, boo). The fishing is good, too. Maybe too good. Getting nipped by bluegills while getting used to the water is a startling and common thing now. I'm not saying that I know how it feels to be a fishing lure or anything, but now I know how it feels to be a fishing lure.

-Nemo's all stocked up and ready to go again.
