Dog Days of June

June 1st through 6th, 2021

Last week the weather switched from Spring to Hot overnight. Specifically overnight on Thursday. With 20°F to 30°F added to the highs and lows, the best place to be was in, on, and under the lake. After the hot hit, the clouds became thin and wispy if there were any clouds at all. This made the sunshine less warm and inviting and more brutal and burny. The hot pushed the lake temperature up to 70°F, making the in, on, and under less hypothermic and more Julyolicious. There was a bit of rain early, but in addition to hot, it was dry for most of the week. Creeks are still flowing into Lucerne, but they are noticeably slowing down. The little wet and the big hot has created peak green in the hills around the lake. The little bit of rain combined with all those trees has pollened up the down wind shoreline of the lake. They're fading fast, but there are still some trillium in the woods. Other late Spring and Summer flowers are un-fading fast, as are the bugs. Huge flocks of butterflies were seen fluttering up the North end of the lake. While primary tick season is over, there are still plenty of the icky blood suckers waiting in the tall grass. The first crop of frog is coming in nicely in the ponds around Lucerne. In the air above the lake, huge flocks of lawn poopers were heading North and honking up the sky. In the woods, the sugarmen were starting to gather sticks to fire the cookers for next year's maple syrup season. Just over 10 cord to go! It took two full sessions, some medium carpentry, and a few minor injuries, but the show dock is in at Water's Edge. The first show is scheduled this week on Wednesday, June 9th. O'Briens are still available at the Log Cabin but you have to ask for 'em. Huzzah! If this weather holds, we'll all be dead of exhaustion before Labor Day, even with the addition of the extra tasty energy of O'Briens at the Log Cabin (ask for them by name). We are tempted to suggest some form of pacing, but prior experience tells us that the hot could end just as fast as it popped up. Instead of moderation, if you feel dizzy due to mosquito exsanguination, a stress fracture, or cardiac event you may want to sit for a few minutes before the next ski run.

-Nemo's medium crispy, should apply more SPF before mowing.
