Post Peak Pleasant

October 5th through 11th, 2020

Lake Lucerne
Last week had no frosts, little rain, and temperatures that could be overcome with a light jacket. It was not exactly July, but we'll take it! The lake had a few flat days for skiers that prefer to glide on glass, and a few angry days for those that prefer mogul runs, but with the water temperture at 55°F, there were none that gripped the handle and cried, "Go boat!".
Lake Lucerne
On the rougher days, impressive sets of waves continuously crashed on the shore. No one in the cowabunga crowd chose to ride the big rollers as they broke on the North end.
Lake Lucerne
It's technically post-post peak, but there's still some color clinging to the trees.
Lake Lucerne
The reds and oranges on the hill to the East of Lucerne are fading fast, but the yellows are still strong.
Lake Lucerne
One cold night or strong gale should wipe the oranges from the face of the forest.
Lake Lucerne
It'll take a little longer to get the yellow on the ground, though.
Lake Lucerne
Last week's sunsets seemed to mimic the trees. Early in the week featured reds that gave the illusion that the forest was on fire.
Lake Lucerne
Later in the week, we had a more diffuse yellow end to the day.

Because it's not going to get any warmer, the weekend became a popular time to pull boats. Many watercraft had their motors put up, gas stabilized, and hulls trailered.
Lake Lucerne
Some, maybe prematurely or perhaps wisely, removed their rafts and piers from the increasingly icy water.

Some mark the end of Summer when team Jennis flees to Florida, others at Labor Day, and still others at the equinox. We tend to feel Summer ends when the ski boat is hauled from the lake and tucked back into the garage. It's a given that speculating about the start of Winter is considered rude in most circles. On the other hand, guessing the date that the ice will cover Lake Lucerne is polite and, in some cases, profitable. With some predicting the first snow coming Wednesday morning, we'll try to get the code monkeys at the knottlane marketing werkes to get the 13th Annual Lake Lucerne Ice-In contest up next week. We can't promise for sure, those coffee and banana daiquiri fueled beasts can be a surly bunch, but we'll try.

-Nemo regrets not skiing, but welcomes not shivering.
