Lake Lucerne
Last week, the final vestiges of Summer were nipped by morning frosts and below 50°F highs. It was time to consider pulling the ski boat. It was time to plan on getting the boat lift out of the lake. It was time to put on a hat.

The week started with a little rain.
Lake Lucerne
In the end, we got about a quarter of an inch. Even with that and the inflows, the lake dropped an inch during the month of September.

By mid-week, the sun came out and started drying the area up.

The color in the trees peaked just after the rain.
Lake Lucerne
There's still plenty of color in the hills East of Lake Lucerne.

There seems to be more red in the canopy between Lucerne and Metonga.
Lake Lucerne
With the cold mornings late in the week, the lake steamed and the water temperature fell fast.
Lake Lucerne
Pulling the lifts and rafts from the water is getting hypothermically refreshing.

On the cold, flat water of last week, we spotted a few fishermen but no skiers.

When the wind picks up, the leaf storms begin. Not only does this fill the air with floating, swirling color, but it makes walking on Knott Lane both cushy and crunchy. In a week or two, the falling leaves will leave the ground brown and the trees gray. After that will come the white. The annual Lake Lucerne Ice-in contest is coming sooner than you might expect.
