It was dry-ish last week, with only about two tenths of an inch of total precipitation. That boast could not be made for many of the previous weeks. The inches and feet of rain that previously baptized the lake led to an explosion of pestilence that bugged us last week. It's a wonder that we have not evolved an extra limb or two so we don't have to /put down the hammer or let go of the tow rope to swat a mosquito.
Each sunset over Lake Metonga brings us one day closer to Footstock. The world championship barefoot endurance competition, the crown jewel on the toe ring of Summer sporting events, is scheduled for August 22nd and 23rd of next week on the other side of Crandon.
The Footstock grounds are being made ready for the crowds of footers, fans, and podiatrists.
The footstock dock, the flat, well spelled heart of the competition, was put in on Saturday by an understaffed, dedicated team that did not include any knottlane staffers.
Closer to Lake Lucerne, Mercury Marine was spotted testing one of their latest and greatest power plants up and down the flat, clear water.
It was a little cooler last week, but still very Summer-y. There were some signs in a few of the trees that this will not last.
Finally, we would like to wish a very happy birthday to knottlane's chief editor and partner in crime. Whether planning a big heist, good summary page, or epic bar night, her help and input has been and continues to be invaluable.
Along with a few bazillion bugs, there was also sun, warmth, and swimmable water. Now is the time to ignore injuries and exhaustion and cram as much into the rest of Summer as is possible. There are many that believe that it's shameful to enter Fall without a limp. Recommended limp inducing events include, but are not limited to, bad ski runs, cross legged sitting near toe grabbing carpeting, and anything prefaced with "watch this".
-Nemo also spotted a frog.
