Greener and Hotter

June 22nd through 28th, 2020

Lake Lucerne
There was a lot of green last week, but there was even more hot. The fiery weather warmed the lake, greened the plants, and bronzed our hides. Those that forgot their sunscreen weren't so much bronzed as cremated. I'm not sure if a sunscreen rated SPF 4 or less comes with a free urn, but it should.
Lake Lucerne
It also rained. Twice. The first sprinkle dropped only about a tenth of an inch.
Lake Lucerne
The second was more juicy. The grass is getting long as the lawn puddles refuse to shrink. Some are looking into fitting mowers with snorkels or pontoons.
Lake Lucerne
Many of the seemingly permanent puddles are becoming a sort of frogtopia. Because of our love of bitey bugs, we welcome our new amphibian overlords.
Lake Lucerne
There were turtles, too.
Lake Lucerne
On one of the rare occasions that I did not have a camera while walking along the North shore, not more than 50 feet from us an eagle snatched up a good sized fish, a bass I think, and landed in a white pine to enjoy a nice lunch. It looked just like this only the feeder looked more like a white pine, the sugarwater looked more like a fish, and the hummingbird was bigger and more eagle-ly.
Lake Lucerne
There were also flowers.
Lake Lucerne
While the weather was hot, there were still a few leftover scars from the cold and heavy snow of just a few months ago.
Lake Lucerne
There were several noteworthy sunsets coloring the sky during the welcome evening cool downs.

Bar nights have been few and far between this year due to construction. A small event was held on the weekend. I'm still not sure if one of the attendees was of legal age, but she didn't start any fights or get too rowdy so we gave her a pass.

The first ski show of the year on Lake Lucerne ate up the flat in front of Water's Edge on Wednesday.
Lake Lucerne
The crowd was larger than expected and well behaved.
Lake Lucerne
The next show is scheduled for Wednesday, July 1st at 6:30 PM with a pre-show starting half an hour earlier.
Lake Lucerne
If you choose to attend, beware of the seawall-high lake level interaction. You might want to sit back a ways or wear a swimsuit.
Lake Lucerne
It was blustery last week, but a few times the wind slowed enough to safely bore tiny holes in the sky.
Lake Lucerne
The view from above was best described as green and lake-y.
Lake Lucerne
Peering East towards Wabikon and Riley, it looked even more green.
Lake Lucerne
There were also boats. Pontoon boats, ski boats, fishing boats, jet skis, canoes and kayaks kept an allegro time between sunrise, sunset, and rain drops. Delightfully, so far this year, there seems to be more skiing, knee boarding, wake boarding, and footing than tubing among the young. The lake temperature pushed to 73°F by Sunday. If the hot weather continues, we could see 80°F sometime in mid-July. I plan to prune up quite nicely.

-Nemo recommends SPF 30+ before heading out to the kiln.
