Hot Then Not

Last week started off hot. 80°F hot. Then it ended cold. 31°F cold. During the entire time, there were green hills, a very high lake level, and many, many mosquitoes.

There was also rain most every day. Some days it was just a passing shower. Other days it was an all day and night event.

The wettest day saw the lake get almost a half an inch deeper.

The rains eventually ended and the sun peaked out.

The result of all that wet was some impressive greening of the hills around the lake.

We were at peak fiddlehead last week. By the weekend, they had progressed to full fern.

We're currently at post peak trillium. There are still plenty of white ones on the forest floor, but the ranks of the wilty and purple are growing.

Then there's the yellow menace.

The first crop of the lawn scourge has gone to seed.

The second generation is broad-leafed and disturbingly plentiful.

The dandelions and the grass needed mowing. We planned to mow around the lawn eagles.

It turned out that lawn eagles don't cotton to lawn mowing.

Before the permit expired, walls and a roof was added to a shed just off the deck. Originally envisioned to hold Summer furnishings during the Winter, it has been reimagined as an 80's style video arcade shed that will eventually hold some classic coin-ops such as Ms. Pac-Man, Missile Command, Asteroids, Galaga, Robotron 2084, and others.

We got some help with the roof, but a few were of little to no assistance at all..

By sunset, the 16 inch holes in the roof were covered up.

It should go without sayin' that sunsets have been on the right side of spectacular.

The almost frost of Sunday morning was a bit of a surprise after the hot at the front of last week. Going forward, it looks like the hot will be back, but Sunday morning has re-taught us to cherish the warm while it's here because it could be gone by next Sunday. Until it ends, grab your suit, fire up the boat, start the pre-season Rafto schedule, and pass the tanning butter.
