September 2nd through 8th, 2019

The autumnal nature of the month continues. It was notably unwarm last week. There were no reports of frost, but it was a close thing. The lake temperature is hovering in the mid 60s°F. There was also rain. Quite a bit of rain. Small ponds sprouted up in spots that were lawns just a day before. The lake level is down 4 inches from its peak back in July and August, but more of these late season monsoons will push it back up to those record levels and beyond. Eventually the rain stopped and the clouds parted. It almost felt warm in the sunshine. While we had no rainbows last week, there was a rare sun halo. On clear nights, a waxing moon cast enough light to tempt water skiers into a few midnight runs. The not so legal nature of such runs combined with the water and air temperature put a surprisingly quick end to that. Local eagles continue to be very active on the North end of Lake Lucerne. All the eagle activity seems to have local food a titch more jumpy. Late season blooms are doing their part in maintaining an illusion of an extended Summer. Some maples are broadcasting the arrival of an early Fall. All the rain and accompanying yard ponds have made lawn management difficult. We seem to be just a wet week away from yard frogs and turtles being augmented by yard bluegills and bass. There is growing talk of amphibious mowers among the men, but we still believe that a dry 3 or 4 days is all we need to lower lawn water levels so mowers will only need a tank of gas and a PFD to cut the grass. There's sill a ski run or two left in the season, but it would be wiser to get those runs in sooner rather than later. Later could get uncomfortably cold. Well...more uncomfortably cold.

-Nemo's embracing the damp while rejecting the dank.
