Hot and Humid

July 29th through August 4th, 2019

Lake Lucerne
July and August are two of the hottest months of the year. It would naturally follow that the seam between the two months would be warm. This Summer's seam followed that trend with just a touch of cool on clear mornings.
Lake Lucerne
Up until last week, we missed the fine crop of mergansers on the North end.
Lake Lucerne
Buds and blossoms continued to explode all around the lake.
Lake Lucerne
All of the exploding got drenched last week by several passing storms that dumped 2 to 8 tenths of an inch of rain each. The lake level remains high.
Lake Lucerne
A small turtle has joined the increasingly legged tadpoles in the rain sustained ponds near the end of West Shore Drive.
Lake Lucerne
During the un-rainy parts of last week, Knott Lane got a new coat of road. It's much less bumpy now.
Lake Lucerne
The ski show season is winding down. If you have yet to attend, there are 3 remaining shows in August.
Lake Lucerne
On dry nights, campfires reflected in the water all around the lake.
Lake Lucerne
On Saturday, the Lake Lucerne Advancement Association held its annual Lake Lucerne Fun Days fund raiser. It was well attended.
Lake Lucerne
There were auctions, food, fun, and the "Lego Walk of Fire".
Lake Lucerne
There was also minnow racing.
Lake Lucerne
In spite of calls from the crowd, bets, and bribes, no losing minnows were eaten.
Lake Lucerne
The person with the fastest minnow had their name added to the Landgraf Cup on permanent display at Water's Edge. There was a bit of controversy when the thoroughbred minnow "Beau Tiger Beau" was disqualified in the final race due to an early break or performance enhancing drugs or something.
Lake Lucerne
There was almost no skiing behind the islands during the entire event.
Lake Lucerne
Before sunset on Sunday, half an inch and a rainbow were dumped on late evening swimmers and boaters.
Lake Lucerne
Not even the tomatoes were spared [a good soaking].
Lake Lucerne
The lake temperature is pushing 78°F. Getting into the water is not near the tragic event it was back in early June (Unless you're getting pelted with 55°F rain, then there might be some flinching and screaming involved). Now is the time to push exhausted bodies on to the water before that temperature drops back to shivery. As before, we suggest energy drinks and ibuprofen and later in the day maybe a defibrillator.
