Last week, local raspberries still had a few more days on the bush before they ripen, but the wild strawberries dotting the shoulder of Lake Lucerne Drive were at peak picking season.
By mid-week, the ponds and puddles had streamed away and Knott Lane got a new, smoother surface. Now motorists can enjoy cruising down the lane at the posted speed limit (12 mph) without fear of blowouts or suspension damage.
The skiing up of the semi-flat surface was not confined to just Wednesday shows. All week, boats were seen and heard pulling talents of skiers and lumps of tubers up and down the lake.
The second weather event started late in the week with a bizarre sky. Shortly afterward there were 80+ mph straight winds, sheets of rain, and near continuous thunder. Power, internet and cell towers took a while to restore.
There were also flowers and bugs, but since that's implied with July it would be redundant to devote a slide or two to that topic. If high water is your thing, have we got a lake for you. As noted before, the lake level is holding at record levels for this century. All the sky dripping from last week should keep it there well into August. Last week's hot, with one day approaching 90°F, has finally baked the sub-zero nightmares of January from our minds. We should have about 5 months to enjoy the memories of the fevered weather of mid-July before they are frozenly forgotten.
