Shiny, Happy, A Little Wet

June 10th through 16th, 2019

Lake Lucerne
While many days were filled with copious amounts of sun last week, there was also a cornucopia of rain mixed in. The lake level continues to hold on to its record highs.
Lake Lucerne
The rain between the sunny came in two events. The first pushed the lake level up almost an inch.
Lake Lucerne
The second rain event pushed the lake up about 1.25 inches. There have been no reports of boats formerly comfortably cradled on lifts floating off. No credible reports anyway.
Lake Lucerne
The tree pollen season is over. These are some of the results. The end of that season along with the rain has made the northwoods much less sneezy.
Lake Lucerne
The not trees are still spewing allergens and color.
Lake Lucerne
I don't think they can match the amounts during peak tree dander, but that's not for lack of trying.
Lake Lucerne
Nice insects (the non-bitey kind) seem to really enjoy the not trees.
Lake Lucerne
Others seem to really like the nice and un-nice insects. We can't remember when there have been so many frogs and toads. We'd call it a plague but they eat mosquitoes. As long as they don't take any small dogs or cats, the more the merrier. No small dogs we like anyway.
Lake Lucerne
There's lots of birds flittering about and they have been known to munch a mosquito or two. Not this guy though.
Lake Lucerne
We've never seen that strange fuzzy bird eat a bug, but it sure likes black sunflower seeds..
Lake Lucerne
Late in the week that strange fuzzy bird hopped from the feeder to perch on a log for a while.
Lake Lucerne
The first ski show of the year was canceled due to cold and sky drops. A small consolation show/practice was held in a gap between the drops by a few brave and shivery.
Lake Lucerne
The lake is still cold. It was around 60°F midweek and went up a bit by the weekend. There have been confirmed sightings of skiers, tubers, and swimmers but not nearly the numbers seen in July and August. The next ski show will be Wednesday, June 19th and, unlike the last show, should include more than one boat and a few males.
