Sunless

It was cloudy last week. There were reports that the rain stopped, clouds parted, and fog lifted for about 37 minutes on Saturday afternoon, but, for the most part, sunshine eluded the northwoods all week.

For the first half of the week, it rained. The lake was over 3 inches deeper by the time it stopped.

All that rain made campfires soggy and hard to light.

The lake level had fallen to 18 inches above the nail at the start of September. The past several wet weeks have pushed it back up. Only two more inches and we'll tie the record levels last seen back in early July.

There's still a few leaves in them thar trees, but not for long. Any wind produces local "leaf storms" as the bits of color leave branches and swirl to the ground.

The undergrounding of power continued all week along the west side of Knott Lane. Many new green boxes sitting on fiberglass pedestals popped up. My understanding is that they will be connected and energized before the lake freezes over. The overhead wires and power poles will be removed shortly after that.

On Sunday, the rain turned to snow. It's a little early for the white stuff. We were assured by several that it would not stick.

It stuck. Looks like we'll have to snow blow the lawn before mowing it.

The rain and snow seems to be over, but it'll take a few weeks to dry us out. During the rain, fog, snow, and clouds the lake was mostly flat. A very few may have skied, but we were not any of them. The hard freezes have dropped the lake temperature to 55°F Best to get that skiing in soon, the lake temperature isn't getting any better.
