Kentuck Days Week

July 23rd through 29th, 2018

Lake Lucerne
Last week had the hot that has come to define Summer 2018, but also some rain and a little bit of cool-ish.
Lake Lucerne
The rain (and lightning (mostly lightning)) canceled the Wednesday ski show. The storm total was just under a half an inch. The lake level is not going up. Unless we get hit with a really big one by August 1st, the lake will be down by almost 3 inches for July.
Lake Lucerne
Don't know how we missed these guys up till now. Looks like the little ones are close to flying above the North end instead of just swimming it.
Lake Lucerne
I don't think these guys swim, but they sure do buzz up the bar's deck. To keep up we have to fill the feeders twice a week. I don't recall ever having this many on the North end of the lake.
Lake Lucerne
There's quite a few of these a**holes flying around, too. After getting "kissed", it can take over a week for the swelling to go down. Fifty milligrams of Benadryl is fast becoming part of a complete northwoods breakfast.
Lake Lucerne
In addition to the ducks, eagles, humming birds, and stingy things, we've been putting tiny holes in the sky all week to get a better view of lakes and stuff.
Lake Lucerne
Just over the hill to the east of Lake Lucerne and behind Devils Lake, Lake Wabikon is looking a little weedy.
Lake Lucerne
It was a little cool on Thursday morning, but we are relieved to say that Lake Metonga is still ice free.
Lake Lucerne
Under a blue sky with white puffy clouds, Crandon was buzzing on Saturday.
Lake Lucerne
The people that picked Saturday, July 28th for Kentuck Day could not have done a better job. Warm and sunny was a wonderful addition to the annual festival.
Lake Lucerne
The crowd got larger as the day progressed.
Lake Lucerne
And if festival goers get too hot, there's always the public beach on Metonga, just a stone's throw away.
Lake Lucerne
On the ground, the festival was great, but the car show was greater. We were amazed at both the quality and quantity of cars on display.
Lake Lucerne
For those that passed by the bar mid-week, no we didn't get a new boat. Just letting some friends park theirs here for a while.
Lake Lucerne
That boat, driver, and ropes put on a really good show at Water's Edge last Monday and Sunday (Wednesday's was rained out). The skiers do a good job, too.
Lake Lucerne
If you haven't seen it yet you really should.
Lake Lucerne
It's still warm, but there's rain in the forecast. Lots of rain. With the lake level falling, we'd say we need it. With the water still near an all time high, maybe not. Boat traffic on the lake during the weekend was heavy. Best to get those footing runs in early in the morning or late in the evening or not on Saturday afternoon. Next Saturday, instead of being launched off a boat wave, you could head to Laona where the ski show is to put on a display of skimanship on Silver Lake during the Community Soup thingy. If watching people with pine slapped on their feet do amazing acts is not your thing, there's always soup.
