Classic Summer

July 16th through 22nd, 2018

Lake Lucerne
Last week held all the elements that made for a classic summer in the northwoods. There was heat. There was sun. And best of all, there was flat water. There was also some rain.
Lake Lucerne
The rain came at the end of the week. All of Friday and much of Saturday were spent under umbrellas. The lake level is holding at 23 inches above the nail.

The hummingbirds are back! They had all but left the North end of the lake for over a week. Suddenly, almost a dozen of them are buzzing around the deck area making high speed passes around heads to get at the feeders.

There are also many monarchs munching on the milkweeds.

Other winged ones populating the sky over the North end are far more interested in fish than sugar water or milkweed.

When the eagle's clawed drumsticks extend, you have to forgive small furries for being a little tetchy.

Ski shows continue to astound and amaze the crowd in front of Water's Edge House of Grog and Grub.
Lake Lucerne
There are shows every Wednesday during the Summer, but every Monday in July has a special bonus show.

The condition of Knott Lane is good. There are a few potholes but it's fine for tires, bare feet, and everything in between.
Lake Lucerne
It's been a fantastic Summer thus far. Just enough rain to hold the lake level and more than enough blue and sun to drive many to exhaustion. There's still much Summer to go but you don't need binoculars to see out to the upcoming FootStock (less than 5 weeks) and the annual Knottlane Golf Open (less than 6 weeks away). This year, the golf outing will be on Saturday, September 1st after the fireworks of the Fall meeting of the Lake Lucerne Advancement Association. While you are thinking about your foursome, I'll try to get a sign up sheet coded and posted.
