Atomically Moist

June 11th through 17th, 2018

Lake Lucerne
Last week started optimally for June. There was plenty of blue between the puffy clouds, temperate temperatures, and flat/cool water. Scrapes, pulls, limps, and contusions have not yet presented themselves much, so the ski-golf-tennis-energy drink-repeat cycle of Summer was at full throttle.
Lake Lucerne
There were a few drops on the plants early in the week.
Lake Lucerne
Almost 3/4 of an inch fell overnight, leaving the day mostly dry and extremely green. More rain was predicted for the weekend. The gauge was emptied and put back with the hope of getting another 1/4 of an inch to assure the record lake level holds for another week.
Lake Lucerne
All the plants seem to be happy with the rain and sun we've gotten to date.
Lake Lucerne
The cutting part of the logging operation on the North end of the lake ended. Truckloads of tree will continue to be collected, loaded, and shipped out for several more days if not weeks.
Lake Lucerne
The first ski show of the year was well attended.
Lake Lucerne
The show did not disappoint.
Lake Lucerne
That we get to see it all again in one week had us smiling.
Lake Lucerne
There was some rain during the day later in the week. The plants seem to love getting wet, but the animals not so much. The strange fuzzy bird sheltered under an eve amid the suet and seeds.
Lake Lucerne
By Sunday night, the lake area was drowned with 16 times more than the 1/4 of an inch of rain we had hoped for. The lake level will not be going down anytime soon.
Lake Lucerne
The islands were still above the water midweek. With all that weekend rain, the thought that they'll make wonderful cribs keeps crossing our minds.

The first ski show and monsoons were celebrated during a rare Friday bar night. Drinks included standard, ice-cream based, and those augmented with plutonium. The art of adding just enough fissile material to get the proper aesthetic without giving it an off, neutron-y taste is an art not lost on the North end of Lake Lucerne. That, plus the gamma rays, keep the mosquitoes down.
Lake Lucerne
The lake continues to go up. There is a growing chance that Lakes Lucerne and Metonga may join to form one super lake. Lake Letonga? Lake Mucerne? Will skiing be allowed around the islands just to the east of the underwater IGA store? The metal and mud that locals call the Spring Brushrun was held last week. Not sure how it turned out, but our guess is that it was juicy.

-Nemo's fitting the bar with pontoons, just in case.
