Rain Week

May 15th through 21st, 2017

Lake Lucerne
The lake area was a little cooler last week and Lake Lucerne grew more than a little bit deeper as did all the lawns on the shore. If you have not yet mowed your grass this year, you're in for quite a task.
Lake Lucerne
Rain! Any week that has over 3 inches of the wet stuff is a good week for the lake level. And there's more coming. Huzzah!

The trillium are at peak trill. The forest floor should be coated with them for another week or so.

The Knottlane board meeting and tanning invitational is wrapping up soon. It's been weeks since we laid eyes on our beloved lake. So we climbed a local rock (Cathedral Rock) to see if Lake Lucerne could be glimpsed from the peak.
Lake Lucerne
On the way up, we met some mule deer. These floppy eared types can dent a bumper just as well a whitetail.
Lake Lucerne
Not sure what these guys are. It was noted that Area 51 was not that far away.
Lake Lucerne
The climb was listed as "moderate". This means that if it's puppy's first walk, bring a shovel...just in case. (they forgot their shovel, so mommy carried puppy the rest of the way).
Lake Lucerne
Near the top, looking out at the remaining snow, we were reminded that when downhill skiing, don't follow crazy cousin Joe down the hill. Wiser words were never spoken.
Lake Lucerne
Is that the flag pole of the bar way off in the distance?
Lake Lucerne
Having failed to spot the lake from the rock, we thought maybe we could catch sight of it from "The Wheel".
Lake Lucerne
Getting into one of the pods can be a little tricky, but after that the climb is much less "moderate".
Lake Lucerne
There was a lot of stuff to see but Water's Edge was not one of them.
Lake Lucerne
In the end we had to settle for a drone image of the lake taken around this time last year. Lake Lucerne was almost 2 feet lower then. It will be interesting comparing this year's southern drone view from last year's. The board meeting and tanning competition is over. Cocktails were debated, new contests were considered, and peelers were disqualified. Now is the time to head North (and no small amount of East for some) to level lifts, put in boats and rafts, pull out some fish, and grasp a tow line for the first time this year.

-Nemo, heading North and more than a little East.
