Snow fell early last week. The Lake has yet to get a really big blast, but the 1 to 3 inchers are starting to add up. After all the strong wind, there's only about 2 inches remaining on the lake. Drifts of over 2 feet surround the shoreline and the snowmobile trails are open.

A thawing event before the last snow has created an ice layer as seen on these deck rails. Given we are now into January, that ice layer is going to be around for awhile.

The ice layer under the snow is making Knott Lane, and many other roads North of Hwy 64, treacherous. The wintry math of this transportation system is easy. Low coefficient of static friction plus gravity equals bruises.

"Riding a Curl" is a bit of surfin' slang that, up here, means falling off a roof.

The dwelling remains in a state of bonkitude, but WPS has ensafened the lane again with a little light woodwork and power cutting. In case you are wondering, those are perfectly cromulent words.

The lake ice is 10 inches thick. Gentlemen, start your ice shanties, there's fish that need catching.

Over it all last week, Roger was boring holes in the sky.

New Year's Eve's bar night included the tasty Alien Secretion.

And the popular Bailey's Comet.

There were also Men at Work songs, toast, and an appropriate sandwich spread.

The 26th Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War will be 3 weeks away this Saturday. Will the North fort rise from the pummeling of last year? There are many factors to consider. Training, technique, fighting spirit, materiel, and a possible draft of Crandon Water Show members are all important, but mostly it's the wind direction. The ice is currently thick enough. Could use a bit more snow though.<br><br><br>-Nemo's obtaining rockets, doing a snow dance.
