Lake Lucerne Go

July 18th through 24th, 2016

Lake Lucerne
Last week was a hot one. Hotter than it's been up here for years. We are on mile 12 in the marathon that is Summer but, with the heat and activity, it feels more like mile 22 and we are beginning to cramp up.

The previous full moon is named the "Strawberry Moon". The full moon near the end of August is called the "Back to School Moon". This week the "Advil™ Moon" provided relief from an otherwise dark night by casting light on sore muscles and joints.

Most sunsets last week were accompanied by smoke and light from campfires on the shore.

Later in the week, an eagle put on an excellent display of fishmanship in front of the Bar's freshly mowed lawn.

The fish looked like a very surprised bass.

After some fish munching, the big bird hopped onto a large branch near Knott Lane.

It stayed there for awhile.

There are only about 6 ski shows left in 2016. You should go to them all.

Last week, we learned that the bar area has a virtual infestation of pokemon. Young people armed with smart phones have captured several. Including, we were told, a rare one. Not sure if we are ever going to actively try to catch one ourselves. I can't help but think they taste a little gamey.

Every time one of the the bar's mouse traps scores a victory in man's war against vermin, we've added a "Dead Mickey" sticker to the trap's superstructure. Due to recent pokemon revelations, the mouse trap stickers have been augmented.

Bar nights last week ranged from the sedate to the lively with closing times ranging from the prudent to the unwise. During all, Bailey's Comets burned.

In a sign of upcoming seasonal doom, the first boat lift was excised from the lake last Sunday. It didn't go too badly, but the "Advil™ Moon" turned out to be aptly named and underscored.

A "pokemon infestation of the bar" is one of those things that I never thought I'd ever say. Never say never. The lake temperature is getting close to 80°F! Swimming and diving are no longer synonymous with hypothermia and there's talk of pick-up Rafto! games. We got a little rain last week. The lake level is hanging in there at about 3 inches below the nail. Would love to see it go over the nail this year, but I don't think so.
